China tobacco growing division project passed expert appraisal

On July 18th, the China tobacco growing division planning appraisal meeting organized and hosted by the State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau was held in Beijing. Zhang Baozhen, deputy director of the State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, and He Zehua attended the meeting.

The former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Liu Gengfang, served as chairman, Zhao Zhenshan, general manager of China Tobacco Co., Ltd., and Tang Yuanyu, former director of the Guizhou Tobacco Science Research Institute, as vice chairman, and 11 experts from inside and outside the industry. The appraisal committee conducted a review of the project and believed that the project had an accurate topic selection, a reasonable technical route, a wide coverage of research contents, complete appraisal data, abundant data, and fulfillment of various tasks stipulated in the contract; and the evaluation of the ecological suitability of tobacco. The method, quality evaluation method of flue-cured tobacco, and research and development of tobacco planting regionalization information system in China have achieved original results, and the project has reached the international advanced level. The appraisal committee unanimously agreed to pass the appraisal and proposed to speed up the application of tobacco planting regionalization research results throughout the country.

The tobacco plantation division project undertaken by the Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute and the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a major scientific research project initiated by the State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau in 2003. Based on the collection and analysis of a large number of tobacco leaf, soil samples and meteorological data in the country's tobacco fields, the project has conducted in-depth studies on the relationship between the ecological environment of the tobacco fields and the quality of tobacco leaves. For the first time, modern statistical analysis techniques such as correlation method, AHP, and membership function method have been comprehensively used to construct a scientific and reliable evaluation system of the ecological suitability of flue-cured tobacco and the quality evaluation system of flue-cured tobacco. The project systematically studied the regional distribution of appearance quality, physical properties, chemical composition, sensory quality and comprehensive quality of tobacco in China. The content of reducing sugar and potassium ions in tobacco leaves was used as a characteristic index of tobacco quality, and the regional distribution of quality characteristics of tobacco in China was discussed. The features provide new ideas for the development of high quality tobacco leaves. The project applied the evaluation index system of ecological suitability of flue-cured tobacco, spatial interpolation of geostatistics and international advanced GIS overlay technology, combined with the national quantitative assessment results of flue-cured tobacco quality, completed the comprehensive assessment of ecological suitability and ecological zoning of flue-cured tobacco in China. The five first-level tobacco growing areas and 26 second-level tobacco growing areas in the southwest, middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Huanghuai, Southeast, and the north were proposed and studied, further clarifying the scope of China's tobacco ecological suitability. Based on the research of tobacco planting and regionalization, the project combines the socio-economic status of the tobacco producing areas and regional comparative advantages, and proposes the distribution status and development layout of the dominant areas and potential areas of tobacco leaf production in China for the first time. The project has for the first time developed a “China Tobacco Planting Regionalization Information System” with independent intellectual property rights based on the GIS platform, and constructed seven professional databases on tobacco leaf quality and tobacco leaf production in the main tobacco producing areas in China, and is a tobacco production management department at all levels. It provides decision support and provides a reliable technology platform for the popularization and popularization of tobacco planting regionalization results, and the evaluation and real-time updating of tobacco leaf ecological conditions and tobacco leaf quality.
