China's PV industry is underdeveloped

Statistics show that in 2009 China's photovoltaic cell production reached 4382MW, an increase of 66.2% year-on-year, accounting for 46.9% of global production, far more than Europe and the United States, Japan and other traditional photovoltaic countries, firmly occupy the first place. However, the raw materials and product markets are both “outside”. In the short term, they have “sucked gold” under the recovery of global industries, but they are unable to dominate global industry trends. They are simply “manufacturers”.

Shi Zhengrong, president of world photovoltaic giant Wuxi Suntech Solar, said that the global photovoltaic market is still dominated by Europe and the United States, of which Germany accounts for nearly half of the total global capacity. Although China has introduced some supportive policies and initiated some domestic demand markets, it is difficult to digest the industry situation in which the economy has been swept up. Many small and medium-sized enterprises are worrying about their ability to resist earthquakes.

Shi Dingyao, director of the China Renewable Energy Society, said that the industrial structure and government decisions are difficult to complement each other. In contrast, the unique industry orientation of the United States and Germany is worth learning from.

10 years ago, the solar energy industry in the United States was almost zero, but under the policy of large-scale application of generous subsidies, the country’s photovoltaic industry grew by more than double digits each year. Dennis, spokesman for the American Solar Energy Association, said that once China rolls out a huge market, it will shock the world.

Many experts believe that Asia, the Middle East, Africa and other regions are currently "jumping" in the development of new energy industries, and Chinese companies need to look more at the domestic market and guide government actions before they can compete in global new energy.
