Interview with Zhong Xinguo, Innovation Pioneer in the Field of Steel Structures

Zhong Xinguo, a project manager of the China Construction Third Bureau and a national first-class registered constructor. Although he has only worked in the steel structure field for 12 years, he has won two national scientific and technological achievement awards, two national invention patents, and completed seven Hubei engineering methods and one Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Achievement Award. Shanghai Pudong Airport A380 overhaul hangar project and Huangshi Stadium steel structure project won the 2009 Shanghai and 2010 annual Golden Steel Awards, and Huangshi Project won the “National Worker Pioneer”.

Zhong Xinguo was appointed as the steel structure installation project manager of the A380 overhaul hangar at Shanghai Pudong Airport in 2008. This project is the largest single-span steel roof structure in Asia. The "Research and Application of Hydraulic Synchronous Hoisting Technology in Pudong Overhauled Hangar Steel Roofs" won the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award, "Solid Welded Ball Grid Construction Method" and "Complete Lifting Method for Large Roofs" by the Hubei Provincial Construction Law. Obtained one of the national invention patents and won the Shanghai Metal Structure Association’s Golden Steel Award. In 2009, he served as project manager of steel structure safety and security for Huangshi Stadium. His responsible “Comprehensive Construction Technology of Space Skewboard Skew Grid in Huangshi Stadium” won two national scientific and technological achievement awards and won the Shanghai Metal Structure Association’s Golden Steel Award. . He presided over the preparation of "super-heterotype welded steel joints production method" and other four engineering methods were rated as Hubei provincial construction method. And completed one invention patent.

The source of innovation lies in learning. Zhong Xinguo regards work and study as his life. At ordinary times, apart from eating and sleeping, he spends most of his spare time on work and study. With his own efforts, he has successfully passed the first batch of first class constructor qualification certificates in China. He applied his unceasingly learned knowledge to his work and achieved success one after another. Under his leadership, the project department has a strong learning atmosphere. Old and new employees respect each other, learn from each other, and complement each other to improve and make progress together.
