At the same time, Mitsubishi Chemical will also propose a new bioethanol refining process that combines the technologies of the two companies.
Zeolite membrane is mainly used in pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process after distillation in bioethanol refining and dehydration process. In this step, a general-purpose zeolite such as A-type zeolite is used. MZM began manufacturing and selling A-type zeolite membranes in 1998 and has more than 70 customer companies. A-type zeolite membranes are characterized by their high dehydration capacity. In addition to the bioethanol dehydration process, they are also widely used in solvent recovery systems for industrial alcohols.
Mitsubishi Chemical has developed a chabazite (CHA)-type zeolite membrane that is excellent in water and acid resistance and can exhibit high separation capability even in a large moisture content area. This zeolite membrane has been used in the solvent recovery system of Mitsubishi Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and the concentration process of Japanese sake.
Mitsubishi Chemical and MZM have previously cooperated with each other in the dehydration system “ZEBREX†combining a type A zeolite membrane and a CHA type zeolite membrane, and launched a sales campaign for the bioethanol plant in the United States together with Daiyangri. In this cooperation, Mitsubishi Chemical and MZM will make full use of the advantages of Mitsubishi Chemical's zeolite development technology, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group's marketing strength, and MZM's awareness in the A-type zeolite manufacturing technology and market, and strive to expand the zeolite membrane. business.
Specifically, Type A zeolite membranes will be manufactured by MZM and exclusively sold by Mitsubishi Chemical. Mitsubishi Chemical will vigorously carry out marketing and customer development activities for Type A zeolite membranes with the support of MZM. In the United States, sales will be made through the industrial gas sales network of solar-acid subsidiary Matheson Tri-gas.
At the same time, it will also propose the energy-saving process and the production increase process of the combined type A zeolite membrane and CHA type zeolite membrane. By replacing the original PSA process with ZEBREX, or adding ZEBREX, it is expected to reduce equipment costs and achieve an increase of about 10 to 15%.
In markets such as the United States and Brazil, bioethanol based on biomass such as corn and sugar cane is gradually becoming popular. Especially in the United States, the demand for the addition of bioethanol to gasoline has been continuously expanding, and more than 210 bioethanol plants have been put into operation. Moreover, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also plans to further increase the production capacity of bioethanol.
Most of the factories mentioned above have been put into operation for more than 10 years, and they have ushered in the equipment renewal period. In addition, EPA said that in order to reduce the life cycle emissions of greenhouse gases by 20%, bioethanol production from corn and other edible raw materials will increase in the future, and most manufacturers have begun to introduce energy-saving equipment while increasing production.
